European Individual Squash Championships Conclude in Budapest

The 2026 European Individual Squash Championships concluded in Budapest on 22 August with the women’s and men’s finals. Hungary hosted the senior individual continental championships for the first time in 20 years, with six Hungarian men and six Hungarian women competing alongside Europe’s leading players.

Among the Hungarian men, Balázs Farkas achieved the best result, finishing 13th at the European Championships. Benedek Takács finished 17th, Bendegúz Kamocsai 21st, Dániel Simon 45th/48th, Regő Komlódi 49th and Barnabás Sáli 53rd.

In the women’s competition, Gabriella Csókási recorded the best Hungarian result, finishing 25th. Nóra Juhász finished 27th/28th, Csenge Kiss-Máté 31st/32nd, Villő Varga 38th, Linda Páj 39th and Krisztina Kun 43rd.

In Saturday’s play-off matches, Gabriella Csókási defeated Czech player Anna Serme in four games (3–11, 18–16, 11–7, 11–4) to secure 25th place. Bendegúz Kamocsai also ended the tournament with a victory, defeating Dutch player Robert Lindner 3–1 (9–11, 11–5, 11–9, 11–4) to finish 21st. In the match for 17th place, Benedek Takács lost 3–0 to Liechtenstein’s David Maier (10–12, 7–11, 3–11).

All-Belgian women’s final

Belgian sisters Tinne Gilis and Nele Gilis met in the women’s final. Top seed Tinne Gilis won the title 3–0, although all three games were closely contested: 12–10, 11–7, 14–12.

Crouin defends his European title

In the men’s final, top-seeded Frenchman Victor Crouin faced second seed Dimitri Steinmann of Switzerland. Crouin won the final in three games, 11–2, 11–7, 12–10, to claim the European title once again.

Two Spanish players, Ivan Pérez and Bernat Jaume, contested the bronze-medal match. Pérez prevailed in five games, winning 3–2 (6–11, 11–7, 11–5, 6–11, 12–10).
