Balázs Farkas produced a superb performance to reach the last eight of the PSA Budapest Squash Open. The Hungarian international defeated the tournament’s No. 2 seed, Spain’s Bernat Jaume, ranked World No. 36, 3–1 in Tuesday’s second round.
Balázs made an excellent start, taking the first two games 11–9. Jaume fought back to win the third, but Farkas regained control in the fourth and closed out the 59-minute match 11–8.

The victory is even more impressive considering that Jaume finished fourth at the European Individual Championships in Budapest just a few days ago, and entered the PSA Budapest Open as the tournament’s second seed.
Earlier in the day, Benedek Takács also produced a fantastic performance against the tournament’s top seed.
Facing Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng, World No. 18, Takács took a 2–1 lead and pushed the top seed all the way. Yow eventually turned the match around to win in five games.

Dániel Simon also returned to action. Following his first-round defeat on Monday, Simon re-entered the main draw as a Lucky Loser after Muhammad Ashab Irfan withdrew from the tournament. He faced Qatar’s Abdulla Al-Tamimi in the second round, but was unable to progress.
Of the three Hungarian players, Balázs Farkas is therefore the one who continues into the quarter-finals.
In Wednesday’s quarter-final, Balázs will face Japanese No. 7 seed Ryunosuke Tsukue.
